COE Alums and former Teachers of the Year lead the Walking Bridgade in 2013 Homecoming Parade

FIU’s Homecoming week ended October with a wide array of activities.  The College of Education made an impressive mark at the Homecoming Parade with over 40 students, faculty, administrators, and staff walking during the parade. In the Spirit car leading the Walking Brigade, was two former Teachers of the Year, Victor Lopez ’84, ’06  and Cristine O’Hara ‘99. Victor was the 1979 Florida Teacher of the Year also Principal of Miami Sr. High School for over 11 years and possesses an Ed.D. in Educational Administration and Supervision from our College.  Cristine, 2011 Teacher of the Year, has a Bachelors in English Education and a Master’s in Urban Education from FIU.  It was indeed very special to have both of them representing our College.

Walking in the Parade were members of our faculty and administrators (Maria Fernandez, Deborah Hasson, M.O. Thirunarayanan, Cari Autry, Steve Person and Eva Frank), students representing COE clubs Recreational Therapy,  KDP and Sports Science Organization . Of course, the Panther LIFE students were all there showing their FIU Panther spirit!
